I really enjoyed The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson and A Song of Ice and Fire by George Martin. I don’t like too much romance in my novels. I tried reading the Mistborn trilogy by Sanderson, but I didn’t like it as much as Stormlight.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfus. It’s a trilogy but the last book isn’t done yet.
Go for Jim Butcher. The Dresden Files and Codex Alera are great
