Hi! I'm looking to start reading some more classics but I don't want to jump into an enormously complicated book right away. Any suggestions for a book that's accessible for a beginner to the genre?

    1. Of Mice and Men

      To Kill a Mockingbird

      The Metamorphosis (Kafka)

      Animal Farm

      The Great Gatsby

These are all short and fairly accessible in terms of language.

    2. Animal Farm

      East of Eden

      Catcher in the Rye

You should absolutely read The Count of Monte Cristo when you’re ready for something a little meatier.

    3. Anne of Green Gables

      Oliver Twist

      Tom Sawyer

      Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier)

Be sure to avoid any abridged titles you may run across.

I also recommend trying audiobooks with classics. There’s many amazing reading performances out there that bring new levels of enjoyment to well-written novels.

    4. Adding my voice to “To kill a mockingbird” “Animal Farm” “Of Mice and Men” and “1984”
One thing I would suggest is take a break between classics. Don’t read one straight after the other.
