I just got finished with Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari and thought it was sublime. It's instantly one of my favourites and follows in a similar vain to a few of my other favourites like Midnight in Chernobyl (take a wild guess at the topic) and Empire of Pain (the opioid epidemic in America).
Anybody have any similar recommendations? Essentially extensive journalism into a particular event that pulls together a litany of interviews, case studies and history to form a strong interlinked narrative about how events played out, or came to be. I find them super satisfying to read. Thanks

The Radium Girls
And The Band Played On by Randy Schilts is one of the best in this genre. Exhaustive research, endless detail, but it reads like a novel.
