I've narrowed it down to Dinosaurs now. Children's books about dinosaurs, suitable for a 5 year old? He has a younger brother who is like 3-4 who I might need to find a picture book for but the older brother is reading words. I don't know anything about the mental development of children.

Have You Seen My Dinosaur by Jon Surgal
Dinotrux is a good series about trucks that are dinosaurs. So is “How Do Dinosaurs…” Which is a series about navigating situations on everyday little kid life, but as a dinosaur. “We Don’t Eat Our Classmates” is a funny one also about dinosaurs in little kids social scenarios.
David Hone’s *Curious World of Dinosaurs* series is aimed at 6-8 year olds. It’s very child-friendly, and if it’s too advanced now, it won’t be soon!
