I’m looking for books where the main character feels stuck, behind, or just bad at their job, the kind of person who struggles to keep up or connect at work and in life. I’m interested in stories that really get inside their head and show the frustrations and self-doubt that come with it.
I liked The New Me by Halle Butler which is along these lines. Any genre works, I just want something relatable, real, and maybe a bit comforting to read.

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole is the book you’re looking for.
I read it for the first time last week. It’s easily the funniest book I’ve read in a long time too.
I recently finished a book by Kikuko Tsumura, where the main character is experiencing burnout. It’s called “There’s no such thing as an easy job”
I really enjoyed Halle Butler’s Jillian, so I’ll have to check out the book you mentioned.
Here’s some other suggestions:
I Hope This Finds You Well: a novel by Natalie Sue
Temporary: a novel by Hilary Leichter
Eileen: a novel by Otessa Moshfegh
Everyday Life: a novel by Lydie Salvayre
