Hey all, I just got out of a really rough relationship and I’m looking for books where the main character (or author, if it’s a memoir) is going through a breakup/divorce/separation and then ends up on a real journey of self-discovery. I’m not looking for self-help or advice books more so character-driven fiction or narrative nonfiction about someone picking up the pieces and figuring out who they are again.
For reference, I loved The Wedding People by Alison Espach and Really Good, Actually by Monica Heisey, so anything in that vibe is perfect.
Here’s the kind of thing I’m hoping for:
Fiction (or memoir) — not self-help workbook style. Deep emotional journey: heartbreak, loss, disillusionment, but also growth. Not necessarily a “get back together” arc more about the protagonist finding themselves, not just finding a new partner.
If you’ve read anything that fits this, I would love your recommendations. Thanks in advance.

reading “eat pray love” helped me so much last year when my boyfriend of 3 years ghosted me. not perfect but definitely hits that self discovery after heartbreak vibe.
Maybe a bit too YA for your taste, but I think The Rampart Trilogy (M. R. Carey) ticks those boxes.
