With so many options out there, picking your next read can feel overwhelming! Do you go by recommendations, genres, book reviews, or just a random pick?
Often go for recommendations from friends or family 🙂

Any of those, really. I’m very, very impulsive. Depends on what kid of book I crave. I have a huge TBR that I browse before I choose my next book.

I request my books from the library so my reading order is mostly decided by the order they arrive in. What I request is usually based on what I’m interested in at the time, things I see suggested here or recommendations from friends or family

If you haven’t read a ton of books think about what type of movie you like: mystery, spy, action, horror, romance. Also think of a time period or place, like England of the past or present day world politics. That can narrow it down a bit. Once you have those few details you can google books with those criteria and read the reviews. You’ll start to get a feel for certain authors and styles of writing. And for all that is holy, if you don’t like a book don’t feel like you have to finish it. Many people feel like they have to read the whole damn thing. Life is too short to read books you don’t like.
I have just short of 300 audiobooks on my phone. When it’s time for a new one, unless I’m in the middle of a series I generally just scroll until something sticks out to me. Occasionally I’ll be going for something specific like when I need a breath of fresh air in between very large books like storm light novels, or when I’ve just finished something rather heavy in content like asoiaf or anything Stephen King wrote. Sometimes I’m determined to get far enough into a series someone recommended to start liking it. This is how I ended up now reading expeditionary force on my 4th attempt after SO MANY people kept recommending it. They were right, once you get to skippy it gets really rolling.

When I get overwhelmed trying to pick my next read I use this fun tool to pick for me: https://www.spoiltheplot.com/whats-next?c=32

Anyway the answer is it depends.
