mine is Ulysses by James Joyce, I own a copy, it is been on my shelf for years looking impressive, i know it is about a single day in Dublin and i can nod along when people discuss it. never made it past page 50. i am convicted half the people who claim to have finished it are lying too. what is the book you fake your way through conversation about?

I wouldn’t lie about having read a book. I take pride in the books I’ve read and it would cheapen it to do that. I’ll just say the truth, which is that I’ve read most of the odyssey but didn’t like it. You can still have a conversation about the book without pretending you read the whole thing

El Don Quijote de la Mancha. I read 2/3 of it in it’s original content skipped most of the middle. I read it when I was young and have not had the will to re-read it. Great piece of literature though… but I’m done with it.

I’ve had a copy of tolkiens “the silmarillion” prominently on display for about 45 years.
I’m not even kidding myself anymore I’m never going to finish it.
