Looking for recommendations for 16 (17 in March) year old girl.

She does ballet and violin. Does well in school. Has a great group of friends. Plans for the future. Lives in a wealthy area. No mental health struggles.

Her favorite show is Stranger Things.

I was a very depressed, anxious and struggling teenager so all the books I liked then I’m afraid she might not like.

I’ve searched previous threads but can’t decide.

    Thank you in advance!

    1. Just because one is well adjust doesn’t mean they don’t like dark things. I’d try Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. Lifecycle of the common octopus.

    2. As a 16 year old girl, I can suggest some of my favourites:

The Perks of being a Wallflower; the quintessential teenager book.

Little Women (I think every women should read this book)

      To Kill a Mockingbird

      Crime and Punishment

      Emma

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the universe (don’t bother with the sequel, it sucks lol)

It’s kind of a funny story

Of Mice and Men (any Steinbeck, really)

How to Make Friends with the dark (any Kathleen Glasgow)

-The raven cycle by Maggie Steifvater has a very strong Stranger Things vibe. Group of friends get tangled in something magical/mysterious/lightly scary at times. Author hops pov, so there’s multiple protagonists. I will always recommend this series. It’s so good. There’s 4 books, a short story, and a spinoff trilogy that follows.
-The Paper Girls is a graphic novel, and I admittedly haven’t read them all, but it’s a group of girls who deliver papers and solve a mystery, essentially.
-Tithe by Holly black is a good urban fantasy. It has a sequel that I haven’t read.
-Last, I know Gaiman is on everyones shit list including my own, but neverwhere has a great “was going about my daily life and now I’m on a wild adventure and the world is very different than I thought” vibe, FWIW.

    4. Privileged by Zoey Dean

      The Legacies by Jessica Goodman

The Summer of Broken Rules by K. L. Walther

American Royals Series by Katharine McGee

The Inheritance Games Series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
