I have recently enjoyed books by Eric Newby and more recently a book by Tony Hawks about trying to play the Moldovan football team at tennis.
Can people recommend books with a similar vibe which encompasses both adventure/exploration but are also funny?

Tony Hawks also wrote a book about travelling round Ireland with a fridge. It’s called ‘Round Ireland With a Fridge.’
I would also recommend ‘Are You Dave Gorman?’ and ‘Googlewhack Adventure’ by Dave Gorman.
Oh, and ‘An Idiot Abroad’ by Karl Pilkington!
The Downhill Hiking Club, by Dom Joly
The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
There’s No Toilet Paper…On the Road Less Traveled. It’s a collection of humorous travel essays and it is very funny. My personal favorites: The Deep Fried Potato Bug; and A Simian in the Cinema.
