I've long been fascinated by how some people seem hypocritical to the values that they supposedly stand for. For instance, some people want to ban gay marriage to protect the sanctity of marriage but will go out and commit adultery. I feel people who don't practice what they preach are trying to suppress human drives and saying one thing and doing the complete opposite is a thrill for them. It's kind of hard to explain now that I think about it.
Is there any psychological-based books that focuses on this topic?

You could try The Elephant in the Brain
It’s about how we aren’t really in control of most of our actions, our conscious mind rationalizes after the fact to justify what we do.
