Novels featuring a character who embodies selfless/unconditional love?

I'm looking to read a novel with a character like this, or if not quite unconditional love (since that seems difficult to conceive) then someone who displays a wide range of compassion for other people. Also preferably not something in a romantic context. Thanks!
