Any genre is fine!
My cousin died by suicide in 10/2024. My dad died in September from cancer and my aunt is about to pass from cancer in the next few weeks.
Just looking to find some other human experiences that aren’t nonfiction self-help books.

I’m so sorry for all that you’re going through.
Here are some of my favorites, in order of how much I’d recommend them:
A Monster Calls (fantasy)
On Fire Island (romance)
One Italian Summer (magical realism)
Looking for Alaska (romance)
* Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield
* Shark Heart by Emily Habeck
♡ may their memories be a blessing— loss is never easy.
Grief is For People – Sloane Crosley is a book that really stuck with me when I had a close friend pass away unexpectedly. Another one is, The Year of Magical Thinking – Joan Didion.
Edit: both of these are nonfiction, but not self-help. They just are really beautiful depictions of both of the authors’ experiences with grief / personal loss.
Under the Whispering door- TJ Klune. He lost his partner and knows grief well. It’s fiction- it’s the only book that surrounds grief that made me feel warm. I’ve lost a lot of people and it sucks, I’m sorry you’re dealing with so much loss.
We all want impossible things by Catherine Newman. Hang in there, sorry life is so hard.
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell.
