Unique Gangster novels

Hi. I’m looking for a unique realistic gangster novel that have
1. characters that we can have empathy for.(appreciate charecter driven novels also)
2. Novel that explores other sides of them beyond crimes and loyalty
3. Should be unique in terms of story world (their culture, relationship between them)
Note: not Mafia novels, I’m looking for a street gangster type of charecter
