I have a goal of reading at least 10 books in 2026 after I surpassed my goal of 5 this year. I complied a list of books that I've read throughout the years and how I felt about them. I would love and appreciate some suggestions! I have The Living Mountain by Nan Shepherd on deck currently, once I finish one of the two I'm reading. Thank you!

    Read and Enjoyed

    • Into Thin Air – Jon Krakauer
    • Issacs Storm – Erik Larson
    • Flowers for Algernon -Daniel Keyes
    • Radium Girls – Kate Moore
    • When Breath Becomes Air – Paul Kalanithi
    • Pillars of the Earth – Ken Follett (started In the Evening and the Morning-DNF)
    • The Glass Castle – Jeanette Walls
    • Kite Runner -Khalid Hosseini
    • A Thousand Splendid Suns- Khalid Hosseini
    • Project Hail Mary – Andy Weir

    Read and Didn't Enjoy

    • The Wager – David Grann
    • Shogun -James Clavell (DNF-too involved at the time for me)
    • Watership Down – Richard Adams (DNF-felt drawn out halfway through)

    Currently Reading and Enjoying

    • An Immense World – Ed Young
    • Indifferent Stars Above – Daniel James Brown

Books I am Thinking About Reading

    • East of Eden – John Steinbeck
    • Lonesome Dove – Larry McMurtry (two 15 hour flights scheduled for February that I think could fill the time)

    1. I felt the same way about The Wager and Into Thin Air as you, so I suggest reading In the Heart of the Sea, which is about a whaling ship that sinks after it’s attacked by a whale. It’s the story that inspired Moby-Dick. Really interesting, educational, and gripping.

And the Mountains Echoed is probably my 2nd favorite of the big 3 by Hosseini. I thought “Cutting for Stone” by Abraham Vergese reminded me a lot of Hosseini and was a quick, pleasant read. You would perhaps like “The Covenant of Water” as well, but I liked that one a fair bit less.

    3. definitely read east of eden, it’s amazing in every way. also check out jorge luis borges’ collected fictions (short stories), I recommend it to everyone 🙂

    4. Buckle up bud, because I am going to use the bleep out of the new book bot for this one!
