I recently became interested in the city of st Petersburg and am looking for books that take place there and capture what it was like to live there, at any point in time. I like memoirs/nonfiction and historical fiction, or regular fiction is fine but I want any depictions of the city and life in it – history, architecture, culture, geography etc – to be accurate. ya and fantasy are fine. I don’t like crime/mystery or anything that’s too sensationalized, also don’t want anything that focuses too much on the military – it’s ok if war is part of it, and I am interested in reading about the siege of Leningrad, but only from the perspective of a civilian, and would prefer books where war is not the main plot line.
interested in something that will give me just some more knowledge about the city and details about the lifestyle and the day to day of a resident.
edit : wanted to specify St. Petersburg RUSSIA just in case

War and Peace.
Pretty sure some Dostoievsky’s books take place in St. Petersburg, maybe check Crime and Punishment
China Mievelle’s October is an excellent narrative nonfiction book about the October revolution. Some takes place in St Petersburg but not all of course.
