Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach series has Area X. Book one is *Annihilation*. Alien is as a noun subjective in the literal outer space sense, but alien as an adjective is ***fully embodied*** by these books imo.
Book one is written in first person, but the POV changes as the series progresses. Book one is written in first person, book two is written in third, book 3 is split into 4 POVs (3 written in third person and one written in second), and book 4 is once again back to third person.
