Edit: I don't know why this got marked up as spoilers. I'm not spoiling anything lol

I need to hear from you, because I can't be the only one. Everyone around me is like "no, spoilers will ruin the surprise!" and I just think that if a story relies on a big twist or a reveal to make an impact it wasn't that good of a story to begin with.

There's a lot of work that goes into setting up a reveal or a twist in a way that makes it a satisfying and coherent part of the story. There's usually foreshadowing as well that means some readers will figure it in advance. I don't see how simply knowing something will happen will spoil the story. We haven't gone through the story's journey yet, we don't know if the plot builds up the events in a way that creates anticipation that pays off. The reveal is only the final part.

Seeing that first build-up, and seeing how events align to lead to where I know things are going that really appeals to me. Sometimes I might like the something happens in the story, but if the author hasn't put in the work, it still feels like disappointing.

Not to mention that spoilers also help me manage my expectations – I know that the things I want are going to happen, so I can be excited and look forward to them; I also know what's not going to happen, so I can be prepared.

Same here, spoilers actually make me enjoy books more tbh. Knowing what’s coming lets me appreciate all the setup and foreshadowing I would’ve missed otherwise. Plus I get to geek out over how clever the author was building up to it instead of just being shocked for 5 seconds
