    1. Borne by Jeff Vandermeer comes to mind in terms of compellingly odd cover with a really moving story.

      Just off the top of my head, the epic cover for Alchemised by SenLinYu is gorgeous, but I’m not likely to read it because I’m not a big fan of romantasy. I also have always liked the mysterious and epic cover for Matter by Iain M Banks. I like epic cover art that evokes wonder and adventure. There have also been some literary or mainstream books like Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano or The Dutch House by Ann Patchett that have striking, fine-arts type covers. I also like the cover art of the Musical Tables poetry collection by Billy Collins with the oil painting of the cow sitting on the blue loveseat. And speaking of blue, many of my favorite examples of cover art do involve a lot of blue, especially oceanic scenes.
