The Shadow pulp novels are absolutely wild if you can find them – Lamont Cranston going full vigilante mode hits different than the radio show. Also check out some of the old Planet Stories issues, they had some genuinely unhinged sci-fi that makes modern stuff look tame

Check out the work of Dashiell Hammett, especially “The Maltese Falcon” and “The Thin Man.” They capture the gritty essence of pulp fiction really well and have a great mix of suspense and wit. Another classic is Raymond Chandler’s “The Big Sleep,” which is a must-read for fans of hardboiled detective stories.
