Boyfriend Read all the books multiple times. Would like something new but doesn’t know where to turn. Suggest something that is similar to George r r Martin.
Older, shorter, but in a similar vein: Paul Kearney- The Monarchies of God series

Highly recommend Joe Abercrombie’s First Law series. It is amazing grim-dark fantasy! There are 6 of them plus a couple that aren’t in the 2 trilogies. The first one is a bit slower bc it’s all set up, but still great!

The Accursed Kings books series by Maurice Druon (minus the 7th book). It was one of GRRM’s inspirations for ASOIAF. It is really great!

I’ve not read the whole thing yet, but The Dandelion Dynasty series by Ken Liu maybe? (The first book is called The Grace of Kings)

I think one common suggestion in this vein is The Black Company series by Glen Cook.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson.
It’s my favorite! And! The main series is finished!
