Hello,
As the title says, I haven't read a book for 20+ years. I'm looking to start reading again. Could someone please help me based on my top 10 favorite films?
- Decision to Leave (2022)
- Phantom Thread (2017)
- In the Mood for Love (2000)
- Persona (1966)
- Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
- The Handmaiden (2016)
- Burning (2018)
- Past Lives (2023)
- Mulholland Drive (2001)
- Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Generally, I'm drawn to atmospheric, visually striking stories with strong psychological or emotional depth. I prefer slow-burn narratives that are subtle. I think I'd be interested in similar books with beautiful prose, ambiguous or thought-provoking themes, and emotionally resonant stories about longing, obsession, or transformation. I also enjoy anything dark, twisty, and the stories often contain 2 people deeply yearning for each other lol
Let me know if I can provide any more info, thanks for any suggestions!

Based on your taste I’d definitely check out “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Atwood for that atmospheric psychological depth, and maybe “Giovanni’s Room” by Baldwin for the yearning/obsession vibes you’re after
