My mother-in-law recently lost her husband and moved out of their long-time home.
She would like to read but does not want to read anything sad or overtly romantic.
She doesn’t enjoy mysteries or anything where characters are hateful to each other or causing harm.
If you have any specific titles or authors that might serve, I would be most appreciative!

PG Wodehouse, starting with The Code of the Woosters -or- short stories featuring Jeeves and Wooster. Absurd comedy, as light-hearted as they come. What little romance there is, is mostly the main character trying to avoid being snagged by an eligible woman.
Remarkably Bright Creatures is a very cozy and popular book written from the POV of a highly intelligent octopus in a science lab and the shenanigans it gets up to behind all the scientists’ backs. (The science is all zoology focused, not like animal testing or anything fraught like that) in the interest of full disclosure, there is a romantic side plot between a couple of the scientists but that’s not the focus of the book.
I really liked Aging Disgracefully. It made me lol.
