I love books about teenage alienation and disillusionment. Specifically, books that discuss the volatile and intense emotions felt by teenagers during this formative period. I especially love when these books include marginalized identities – reasons why these kids recognize the world as unfair and are so angry about it. It’s also a bonus when these books are set in small town middle America, where they have no out and nothing to look forward to, which was the primary reason for my own disillusionment as a teenager.

My examples include The Catcher in the Rye, The Outsiders, and Demon Copperhead, but I’m looking for more in this vein, and would love to read about women especially.

Have you checked out *Speak* by Laurie Halse Anderson? Hits all your points – small town, marginalized teen girl dealing with trauma and rage at the world’s unfairness. The anger is so raw and real

Also *The Miseducation of Cameron Post* might be up your alley – queer teen in small town Montana, lots of that trapped feeling you mentioned
