East of Eden vs The Brothers Karamazov
I just bought both and want to read both this year. I'm not the fastest or consistent of readers so this may be my whole year.
I can't decide what to read first though.
My gut tells me TBK and I started and I'm about 30 pages in, which is nothing, but I already have no idea what's going on but I have realized everyone has 50 different names.
I need something that's a mix of depressing and hope, make me feel something….I'm dealing with some heart ache and potential promises of something good starting at the same time and I want the book to fit my mood. I want to feel and maybe relate to something while I'm reading and living life.
What are your thoughts on which one I should read first?

Dude go with East of Eden first, it’s literally perfect for what you’re describing. The whole book is about good vs evil and finding hope in dark places, plus it won’t assault you with Russian names every other page
TBK is incredible but it’s heavy as hell and those names are gonna keep confusing you for like 200 pages minimum. East of Eden will hit you in the feels but also give you that hope you’re looking for – it’s basically designed for someone going through life changes
Save Dostoevsky for when you’re in a more stable headspace, trust me on this one
