Books with construction/architectural narratives

I’ve recently started a construction job and often have a lot of “flashbacks” to building/designing scenes from books like Pillars of the Earth, The Source, Sarum, etc. What I loved about these books, especially Pillars, is how they explore how politics, social changes, and historical events hinder and alter a building or town’s construction, like the structure itself is a character, reacting organically to the actions of other. Any books like this (especially if they have nitty-gritty details about the actual building?)
