I have recently starting to get into history books. I would like to read books that tells me about how a country was formed(For example Japan and Prussia). Can anyone recommend me book that fits this criteria?
Check out “The Making of the Atomic Bomb” by Richard Rhodes if you want something that covers how the US basically reinvented itself during WWII, or “Iron Kingdom” by Christopher Clark for Prussia specifically – that one’s really solid on how they went from basically nothing to a major power
For Japan, “The Making of Modern Japan” by Marius Jansen is pretty comprehensive on their transformation from feudal society to modern nation
