I’m in the mood for a springtime read, the kind that smells like tulips and fresh grass. Something with Bridgerton vibes, more like the series than the books, since the book is not woke enough for my taste. Bonus points if there’s an old family mystery woven into the story and a breathtaking love story.

What would you consider woke in historical romance?
Not sure how we are defining woke within historical fiction so how about female empowerment with The Duchess by Danielle Steel. And you may have luck if you bridge the gap into some light fantasy. The Gentleman and His Vowsmith by Rebecca Ide is like a LGBTQ+ historical fantasy realm, steampunky Bridgerton? Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater is also great, some neurodivergency going on there.
