I love series that include lots of books, humor, and aren't super dark. I like fantasy, sci-fi, cozy mystery, and historical romance. Here are some of my favorite authors:

    • Heather Fawcett (Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries)
    • Colin Cotterill (Dr. Siri Paiboun)
    • Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels)
    • Lois McMaster Bujold (Vorkosigan Saga)
    • Terry Pratchett (Guards, Witches)
    • Gail Carriger (Parasol Protectorate)
    • Sarah Caudwell (Hilary Tamar)
    • Diana Gabaldon (Outlander)
    • Patricia Briggs (Mercy Thompson)
    • T. Kingfisher (Clocktaur War)
    • Louise Penny (Inspector Gamache)
    • Georgette Heyer
    • Marsha Canham
    • Tessa Dare
    • Eloisa James

I've looked up recommendations for fans of these authors, and here are a few I tried and did not like: Martha Wells (Murderbot), Jennifer Estep (Elemental Assassin), Tamsyn Muir (Locked Tomb).

    1. The Expanse series is ~10 books and is finished. Good, modern sci-fi.

If you count all the Mistborn books as one series, then that’s pretty long. They don’t all feature the same characters though.

    2. BelmontIncident on

Possibly Seanan McGuire, particularly the InCryptid series. If you’ve seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, imagine that but she’s a sort of supernatural park ranger and mostly deals with trying to keep rare creatures and humans safe from each other.

    3. Wrong-Sprinkles-1293 on

Deanna Raybourn – Veronica Speedwell and Killers of a Certain Age

Richard Osman – Thursday Murder Club

      Victoria Thompson – Gaslight Mysteries

    4. Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon

Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson

The Great Book of Amber by Roger Zelazny

Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne by Brian Staveley

The Commonwealth Saga by Peter F Hamilton

The Masters of Rome by Colleen Mccullough

Harry Hole books (skipping Bat and Cockroaches on authors’ request. Start with The Redbreast) by Jo Nesbø

I’m sure someone else here will shout out The Expanse.

I feel the need to stress my first recommendation. I slept on that series for a long time because the plot summary didn’t do anything for me, and I really regret not diving into it sooner.

    5. Earthsea by Ursula K LeGuin

Tamora Pierce- The Circle of Magic, The Circle Opens, The Circle Reforged, Alanna the Lioness, Protector of the Small

      Madaddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood

    6. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series

      Hunger Games series

      Harry Potter series

      Red Rising series

The Martian and Project Hail Mary (stand alone, Weir)

      Rebecca (stand alone)

Everyone in my Family has Killed Somebody (stand alone)

      The Frozen River (stand alone)
