Like others, I’m watching the impending storm approach my area with a combination of middle school snow day glee and anticipatory angst for multi-day power outages, sleeping (à la Little House on the Prairie but with more polyester fleece) with my whole family in front of the fireplace, no running water, arctic temperatures forecast for weeks. A good book could make the whole thing so much better!
Looking for a well-written escape that will immerse me in another world. Things are dark enough IRL now that I’m not up for anything dystopian, but it needn’t be “cozy” or saccharine either. I want quirky characters I’ll root for and the kind of book that l’ll be sad to reach the last page of, because I know I can never experience it again for the first time. Thanks for any suggestions you can make!

King Sorrow by Joe Hill. It’s not dystopian but it is kind of dark. But the characters are amazing and I was cheering for them lol. Even jumped up and punched the air in glee a few times. At the end of it, felt like I was saying goodbye to dear dear friends.
Maybe storm light archives if your wanting long, across (so far) five books it’s almost 6k pages
