    1. The Pretender by Jo Harkin, 496 pages

Based on the true story of the last claimant to the English throne at the end of the Wars of the Roses. The main character is a farm boy who one day is taken by men who say he is the hidden heir. It follows him through years of preparing to take back the throne – often unsure whether he really is who everyone is telling him he is.

It’s a powerful story about identity and it’s also often funny. Good for people who liked Hamnet or the movie The Favourite

    2. Buckeye by Patrick Ryan would be great for a book club. It spans a good portion of the 20th century and there are tons of characters who make let’s just say “discussable decisions”throughout.
