ok so I don’t know how exactly to describe the kind of book I’m craving right now because i dont exactly know what it is lol. it’s more of a vibe.
I want a book that feels like We have always lived in this castle and the dream sequence from the haunting of hill house (tv show), where the mother is walking around the silent house with that young woman ghost, it’s unsettling, the mother doesn’t even know how to react in that scene, and yet it’s cozy and interesting.
a book where there are a few people who live in a big eccentric house and the whole book has a mysterious aura to it while also being endearing. I adored the scenes in WHALITC where they would describe the kinds of desserts the sister had cooked up and the kinds of decor in the house and the scenes where they would sit in the sunny drawing room just eating good food and enjoying the silence.
I recently tried to read the library on mount char but I had to stop it not even 20% of the way in because it was too violent and disturbing, plus, none of the characters felt likeable to me. I don’t want something like that. I want to enjoy the characters, I don’t want there to be excessive violence. just something…creepy and fun. I would adore a book where a house is haunted by a ghost more interesting than an old man (no offence)
I imagine a cast of characters sitting at a table having tea while the sun rises and they watch people from the distant town do their thing. maybe they brew potions or decipher dreams or something cool like that. or see the future in the stars. eerie in that kind of harmless way.
ok if anyone read this mess of an explanation and thought of any books, I’d love to hear about them. thanks in advance
