Hi guys, I’m looking for book recommendations with a stalker trope but I have a few requirements that have been very difficult to find. A) the 2 characters need to have a relationship before the stalking, this can be a friendship, romantic relationship, co worker, really anything that establishes the relationship and they know each other fairly well. B) Not be cringey, mind numbing slop like haunting Adeline.
I think the stalking genre is a dark and fun way to explore romance !!in a fictional setting!! but I hate that most books with it don’t build up to it. Suddenly the MMC is just obsessed with the girl for no real reason. It’s cringey as hell bc it’s always a ceo and yn situation. Dark broody guy who doesn’t feel emotions suddenly is curious about a woman and falls in love straight away when he doesn’t know anything about her. Not hot. Not sexy. I want the stalking to be out of real desperation and desire for the FMC because they already know each other, also the scandal, angst and drama of the FMC finding out she’s being stalked and then finding out it’s by her super nice co worker Mr. Super hot. Oh my god. The scandal😱🙊. Anyways lol 😅This also makes it ALOT more believable than when the FMC finds out she is being stalked and then does nothing abt it like what happens in most books…as if someone is just going to stay in the house they suspect is getting broken into bc they just…don’t want to leave?! makes me lose all interest when the writing is so bad they have to make the characters garbage just to make the plot work. Like yeah I totally love how this guy who doesn’t talk to many women can’t get a girl out of his head after she bumps into him once in the street and smells nice, totallyyyyy giving broody, dark, handsome man and not weirdo incel vibes…
Overall, I genuinely don’t know how a lot of these books are getting published, most are total slop that are uninteresting, unrealistic, provides 0 drama or scandal and are cringey. I would LOVE if someone has a recommendation of stalking/ possessiveness done well xx.
P.s. this was supposed to be me just asking for a recommendation and wanting to briefly explain what I don’t want but it turned into a full on hate speech😅 didn’t realise how strongly I felt abt these books lol😆

You Need To Become a Monster by AM Shine might scratch that itch – it’s got the established relationship dynamic where you actually understand WHY the obsession develops instead of just “ooh pretty girl walked by” nonsense
Also maybe check out Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill, though it’s more paranormal the stalker elements feel way more earned since there’s actual history between them
