What the hell did I just read.
First of all, why is this book marketed like a spicy romance when it’s actually a psychological trap disguised as a paperback? I went in expecting drama and came out questioning my moral compass and every decision I’ve ever made as a reader.
Every single character is a walking red flag. Not “complex.” Not “morally gray.” Just straight-up deeply unsettling. I kept thinking, okay THIS person has to be the sane one—wrong. Absolute clown behavior on my part.
And don’t even get me started on the manuscript. That thing felt illegal to read. I was uncomfortable, horrified, and somehow… unable to stop. Like yes, Colleen, please continue traumatizing me, apparently.
The worst part? You THINK you’ve cracked it. You’re smug. You’re confident. Then the ending happens and Hoover just watches you spiral. No closure. No justice. Just vibes and psychological damage.
I finished the book and sat there like: “Do I recommend this?”
“Do I need therapy?”
“Am I the problem?”
This isn’t a love story. This isn’t even a thriller in the fun way. It’s a case study in obsession, manipulation, and how easy it is to believe the version of the story that makes you feel comfortable.
I didn’t enjoy it.
I didn’t hate it.
It lives rent-free in my head now.
If you love being disturbed, confused, and morally compromised—congrats, this book is for you.
Plus suggest me more disturbing thrillers
