I have been reading a lot of books with darker themes (horror, murder, etc.) and getting a bit burnt out so want a change of pace.
I am a bit picky with the books I read so here is what I am looking for/would like to avoid:
-Not a book in a series! Looking to just read a quick standalone book
-Not looking for a huge commitment so books under 350 pages are ideal
-Not interested in romance books

I always recommend A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers. Technically its a duology but both are short little novellas so maybe 300 pages total? Nothing too complicated but they feel like a hug and are good for a mental reset.
Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome is a fun, breezy read
A gentleman in Moscow – Amor Towles
The storied life of AJ Fikry – Gabrielle Zevin
both feel like hugs, not 100% cozy and lightearted but overall warm and feel-good
I was just about to post something similar, I’m going on holiday and would like something light and fun so I’ll be following with interest.
My most recent read that would fit is Leonard and Hungry Paul, it’s just a nice story about 2 friends with nothing too wild.
Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck. It features several homeless friends in early 1900’s California who wind up sharing a shack together after one of them inherits some property. Most of its seventeen chapters feature a gallon of wine or two, and each chapter is practically its own short story. The central themes are friendship and rationalizations away from good intentions in favor of vices.
It’s short, fun, and lighthearted.
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver
The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin
