Ok it can be a murder mystery, but that's not the core of what I'm looking for.
I want something where you think you're seeing one thing, and then later something changes your perspective entirely. It can be, but doesn't have to be just a twist ending.
Example of what exactly I loved about Glass Onion (spoilers obviously) We go through the first half of the movie thinking that Andi is on the island, then we discover it's actually Helen, and the movie fills in all the gaps from that perspective
Examples that I've read:
– Shutter Island
– The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
– Behind Her Eyes
– The Silent Patient

I’m Thinking of Ending Things
Stuart Turpin’s other book was good. If you like the Silent Patient you should try all of Agatha Christie (I’ve been told specifying a book counts as spoilers)
*Rebecca* by Daphne Du Maurier is famous this way.
The Last Murder At The End of the World by Stuart Turton – yes theres a murder BUT thats not really what the twist/perspective shift ends up being about, the murder is more of a catalyst for the plot
Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir – this is unfortunately the second book in the series so youd have to read the first one as well, but i personally think that the perspective shift was excellent
We Were Liars – E Lockhart
Girl with amnesia after a serious injury trying to put the pieces back together of the previous summer… The way it comes together, the ending, mind was blown. I definitely didn’t see it coming.
Youthjuice by E. K. Sathue! And if you’re into plays, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
They are murder mysteries (sorry), but Agatha Christie is fantastic at this. Check out The Murder of Roger Ackroyd or Death on the Nile (or honestly any book by her)
