I put Romance but open to anything. I am fiending for Chinese or Hong Kong books. So far I have read all four Chinese classics (Story of the Stone was my favourite, but I stopped shortly after Chapter 80 when the OG author died and the quality dropped significantly), The Drunkard, Drowning, and one novel of Legend of Condor Heroes (did not care for this one).
Right now I want more things that lean towards The Drunkard or Drowning, something about a person that isn’t really good nor that likeable and they are possibly a pervert, but you are still taken in by their personality, even if it is off-putting. Time period doesn’t really matter but 1900s+ would be cool. Some level of romance would be cool as well but also not necessary. Love poetry and is the most necessary part. Gotta have a couple poems in there.
Thank you all in advance.

Yo check out *Wild Swans* by Jung Chang if you haven’t already – it’s not fiction but the storytelling is incredible and has that complex character depth you’re looking for. Also *The Golden Cangue* by Eileen Chang might hit that sweet spot, the main character is absolutely fascinating in the worst possible way
For poetry vibes, anything by Bei Dao slaps hard
