Preferably fantasy, but any fiction book goes. I’m thinking along the lines of The Song of Achilles, or Fourth Wing: Something that’ll get me hopelessly attached to a character who then dies, preferably right before they could live ‘happily ever after’ (so like, the end of a battle or right before they escape or just before they can go home or right after they’ve been promised a happy life etc etc)
Just in the mood for something gut-wrenching and I don’t really know where else I can ask for book recs

A book that made me ugly cry was You’ve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao.
Except you’re going to fall in love with a character that’s already dead.
