Looking for lit fic that subverts the conventions of the classical gothic novel and deals with contemporary themes and horrors.
So far I've read The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter and The Children of the Dead by Elfriede Jelinek.

Have you checked out Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia? It’s got that old school creepy mansion vibe but set in 1950s Mexico with some wild fungal horror elements that feel super modern
