My daughter is 10 and it is so hard it seems like to find books for her. She reads at an 11th grade level so all of the ones I try to give her come up short and kinda boring for her because I don’t want them to be too mature. Her favorite authors are Jennifer Nielson, Lauren Tarshis, and Jeff Kinney. She loves history and war time books. If you all have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Right now she is reading the inheritance games.

When I was her age I really enjoyed Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. Not history or war time but maybe something to give a try.

This might be too mature for her, but A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray is a good historical YA book

    3. The War That Saved My Life

      True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

      Number the Stars

Willow Run by Patricia Reilly Giff

      The Bletchley Riddle

Summer of my German Soldier ( i loved this book in the 80s I have no idea if it holds up)

      More mature:

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

      The Book Thief

Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepetys

    4. Hilary McKay is a great choice for this age/reading level. Try The Skylarks’ War and The Swallows’ Flight to begin with, and then the Casson family series.

    5. Here’s some authors and books I read age 10:

      – Jane Austen: *Pride and Prejudice*, *Sense and Sensitivity*

      – JRR Tolkien: *The Hobbit*, *The Lord of the Rings*

      – Agatha Christie: especially the Miss Marple mysteries

      – Lawrence S Ritter: *The glory of their times*

      – Margaret Irwin: *Young Bess*
