Hi everyone, I just found this page, and I have been obsessed. I'm looking for books about an MC who had a bad falling-out with a group and left, and when they meet up again, the MC is thriving, to the dismay of those who betrayed them. It's one of my favorite tropes, and I'm grateful for any recommendations. I don't have any genre preferences, but I do love anything with a dense plotline, not soley romance focused.

The Count of Monte Cristo is literally the gold standard for this trope – Edmond gets absolutely wrecked by his “friends” and comes back as this mysterious wealthy count to systematically destroy their lives. It’s thicc as hell plotwise and the revenge is *chef’s kiss*
Also maybe try The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, she definitely has that “look how fabulous I am now” energy when dealing with people from her past
