I'm reading The Left Hand of Darkness, and while I like the writing style, not quite as thrilled about "male is the default gender", negative-connoted traits like craftiness being called "feminine" for some reason, the "nightmarish vaginas" scene with the foretellers, and the scene where Genly has the chance to talk about women and says they must be smart, but they don't often turn up in STEM, sooo he's sorry, but they are just too mysterious to describe 😆

I know UKG has since come around to all this, and I respect her for making her journey public.

The book's formal qualities great, tho. That first scene of the keystone laying, wow. Any recommendations for books by UKG or others that are similar to The Left Hand of Darkness in style, genre, or are otherwise commonly associated, that are more overtly feminist, or at least don't transmit patriarchal tropes so vigorously? I loved I Who Have Never Known Men, for example. Thank you ❤️

    1. You realize Genly isn’t a character that you’re supposed to agree with, right? The book is about his journey towards a greater understanding
