I’m reading “And the Band Played on” which covers the AIDS crisis and am struck by how compelling and hard to put down this book is. I’m an academic researcher with projects on HIV and Abortion so reading books with real people’s stories is very helpful for my research. I know of the Turnaway Study but need something with more long term coverage of this issue in the US. TIA!

I remember quite enjoying Michelle Goldberg’s *The Means of Reproduction: Sex, Power, and the Future of the World*, which isn’t history-focused (and covers more than just abortion), but I think might still be of interest to you.
I would recommend Bodies on the Line, truly changed me from semi pro-life to fully pro-choice.
This isn’t quite what you’re asking for, but you might like it. Take my Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez is a fiction story of a young black nurse in a public health clinic in the Deep South in the 60’s. It uses real case information to tell the story of reproductive experimentation that was done on poor young women (mostly black) at that time. It was pretty good.
