I want to read something FUN. I’m new to (or rather reintroducing myself to) reading. I want to read something that’ll make me smile, make me giddy. Doesn’t have to be strictly comedy, it can have heavy and dark themes as long as it’s not the most predominant thing about the book. I would like if there is little to no romance. If there is romance, then no “spice.” Would prefer a female or queer protagonist but not necessary.

It can be YA, new adult, adult (basically anything that’s not mainly for younger kids). Any genre of fantasy (though I would prefer NOT historical). I’m not really looking for “cozy” or heist/criminal-related (unless it’s that good).

I’m already thinking about the Discworld series and Dungeon Crawler Carl (though that’s more of a sci fi).

    Thank you!

    1. Shagduk by J.B. Jackson is funny af but also deadly serious. Librarians, witches, and imps in 1977 Texas. Mid-’20s male protagonist with decidedly 1970s attitudes. Highly entertaining. Urban fantasy, I guess. It kind of straddles multiple genres.
