I’m a big audiobook reader/listener and I’m in a struggle right now with all of the fking wild and crazy shit going on in the world.
I find myself often picking up on the emotions of those around me and characters that I read.
I need a book that will bring some positive in, something that makes me feel good and like there is hope/I can do it/etc.
Would prefer stuff that would most likely be on Libby because I refuse to give bezos more money for him to horde like the little goblin he is (I also lost my job again very recently).
Hope there are good gems out there that I have just not found yet.

My Friends by Fredrik Backman. The audiobook is just delightful.
Do you mean like a happy fiction? Or like an inspiring non-fiction to help you find way to make a difference?
I have absolutely no recs for fictions, bc my own existential crisis has me spiralling into mediocre fantasy romances.
But I’ve been finding a lot of joy in listening informative/optimistic environmental/policy books like What If We Get It Right? by Ayana Johnson and The Light Eaters by Zoë Schlanger. I’ve actually gotten pretty into botany books recently. Learning about the intricate systems within tiny plants has become kind of an evening escape from the world at large.
Maybe diving into a non-fiction topic of interest may spark joy!
Also.. following this bc I really need to find a genre of fiction that isn’t “devastatingly sad” or “series of okayish smut”. Hah I gotta break into a third genre.
Cloud Cuckoo Land, maybe, it’s about people trying to make the best of a bad situation out of their control.
Tress and the Emerald Sea, by Brandon Sanderson. Inspiring, quick paced, and very funny. Fiction, fantasy genre, like Princess Bride with a fascinating magic system, some Macgyver-ing, set in a wider universe, but a stand alone volume.
And narration by Michael Kramer, who is excellent!
I’ve been in a steady diet of romcoms and I just listen to “ the fall risk”. Super fun short story. So try Christina Lauren or Abby Jimenez
Try “Sundays With Harold “. A great loving story.
