For example, I’ve been loving Emily Henry and Ashley Poston. Their books are written the way I like without unnecessary dialogue whether internal or external. An example of what I’m not looking for is Abby Jimenez, her writing is just not for me no matter how many of her books I try. They just feel like millennial slop. Most of the best romances are written by millennials but those aren’t slop.

    1. I enjoyed The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang. The MMC is a pretty normal guy; the FMC is autistic and definitely working through issues with being in a relationship. The characters felt very real and likable. I think I liked the prose? Don’t remember for sure.

The only romance that comes to mind for good prose is Corinne by Rebecca Morrow, plus I recommend the top notch audiobook read by Barrie Kreinik, who’s probably at least partially responsible for my enjoyment of the prose. This is another one that feels like authentic people dealing with difficult situations, with a good amount going on in the book besides a pure romance story.
