My son is turning 9, and has requested some "books he can actually learn from." He is most interested in chemistry and space. He has books that give some of the typical highlights on these subjects like the DK books but he wants something a bit more substantial. He isn't looking for experiment books or anything like that. it almost sounds like he wants a text book. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    1. What is color?: The global and sometimes gross story of pigments, paints, and the wondrous world of art by Steven Weinberg. Loads of chemistry for kids (and adults)
