I am looking for fiction that is set in the near future with a grounded setting. Sci-fi isn’t precluded as long as it has a strong basis in reality.
The perfect example would be like an inverted Michener novel where instead of telling stories about the past it is about stories from the near future.

You might try *Termination Shock* by Neal Stephenson. Multiple viewpoint characters grappling with interlinked complex disaster in the not too distant future.
