I need something that will not just occupy my during my workout, but grip me enough to make me go 'I need to find out what happens next, just a few more minutes…' for as many minutes as possible.
For the last month, that's been The Downloaded 1 & 2.
My main genres are scifi/fantasy. I occasionally delve into historical fiction. YA is fine, though I'd prefer longer stories.
My favourite author is Brent Weeks. Growing up I loved things like Tamora Pierce, Forgotten Realms, Redwall, Enchanted Forest Chronicles, The Merlin Saga. More recently I, quite liked the Expanse series.
While I love both fantasy and sci-fi, I think I prefer to read my fantasy and watch/listen to my sci-fi, so I'm up for both but leaning more towards the latter.
Preferably, there would be little to no romance. A subplot is fine, but I really don't want something where it takes up a significant amount of the story.

Have you tried Andy Weir?
I listened to Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky while marathon training and it got me through lots of long runs
