Literature recommendations

I really really want to get more into classic literature or even modern literary novels. I want to think deeper…this sounds corny but i want to improve my emotional intelligence and also writing skills and i personally feel like i need to read more literary novels for that. i’m a avid reader i read every genre but i most read contemporary romance but it hasn’t been hitting me on a deeper level and a couple years ago i read pride and prejudice and wuthering heights but then i stopped because i wanted faster paced books but i was 15 so time has passed…and now i want to become an avid classic literature reader.i read just kids by patty smith and i loved and which led to the epiphany that i want to read a different genre one that lets me think deeply. I’ve read dracula and carmilla i really enjoyed carmilla but i tried to stray away from the monsters so ended up reading the haunting of hill house which i did like and i loved the way shirley jackson wrote. i am reading the bell jar but the the casual racism has not motivated to keep reading. But i want to like it so bad i haven’t even gotten halfway past the book so i will finish the book but i want more recommendations my planned next read is crime and punishment but i want more recommendations.
